Things you learn by mistake...

Hope your weekend was fantastic. Mine was...busy.

As many of you know, I ran in the 2013 Warrior Dash (take a look at the obstacles HERE) this past weekend. I learned a few things in the process. Things like: mud can get in some crazy places; no matter how much you scrub and wash, you will still find dirt in your ears two days later; there is no way to look cool running an obstacle course; you can get too tired to "suck it in"; the "runner's high" is a myth and a lie created by skinny people who think they are funny and clever.

All that being said, I did have fun completing that course...and I will return next year. (Hopefully in much better shape.)

So, I have a prize for one of you. All you need to do is leave a comment today...anything in general is fine, no stipulations. A winner will be drawn at random and receive the audible versions of the entire original ZOMBLOG trilogy from audible. Check in on Wednesday for a shot at That Ghoul Ava and the Queen of The Zombies as well as my newest edition of Short Attention Span Theater.

On Friday, I will be revealing the first sneak peak at Zomblog: Snoe's Journey with a wee bit of an excerpt. Also, I will pose a question about venting...teeing off...calling people out...et cetera.

  2. Are your ears the only crazy place you're still finding mud?

    1. Yep. And like childbirth and tattoos, you forget the pain pretty fast and are ready to do it again.

    2. Ah, but here I beg to differ. You do not forget the pain of childbirth or tattoos. (this is akin to the skinny peoples' myth on the "runer's high") You just realize they are both worth it and do it again in spite of the pain. ;) Congrats on your achievement!

    1. That was the finish line. I was about ready to just lie there. I never saw anything so wonderful as that banner that read "FINISH".

    1. I have to say, the Run, Zombies 5K trainer is an excellent source of material for training. I can lift in the gym all day...but running has never been my strong suit. That ap does a great job of working you up to that distance.

  7. Include me in the list of proud watchers from a distance. That's not an easy course, but it Does look like fun. The Runner's High is a legend, but unfortunately, the wall is not. But, both can be overcome ;-)
    Well done, Sir.

    1. Thanks, Greg. I will look forward to it next year now that I have at least some idea of what I face. Although I am probably going to attempt the Spartan Run next year also. That is supposedly harder.

  8. I think it's awesome that we never really grow up - we still like to play in mud and run around like mad people. First time my feet hit the grass in the spring, after a winter of socks and shoes, I am six years old again. simple joys! I admire your strength and more than that i admire your dedication to sticking with it! good for you!

    1. Agreed. Growing up is severely overrated. I am already scouring for more of these types of runs. I have no interest in just going out and actually running from point "A" to point "B". But toss in some fire, some mud and some barbed wire...I am there.

  9. What a great accomplishment! Congrats, Todd!

I loved this: "... the "runner's high" is a myth and a lie created by skinny people who think they are funny and clever." -- I always thought that, too. LOL

    1. Serious. I kept waiting for that magic to happen, but is you took a look at any of that video, I think it is obvious I was feeling no such thing.

Curse you, skinny runner types and your clever lies.

      Now...where is my VooDoo doughnut?

  10. Awesome blog post! The pics are great. I've given in to peer pressure and run a couple of 5K races but have only felt exhausted and nauseous at the end.. I think the "runner's high" is just skinny folks delirium from not eating enough chocolate...

Pris (at work and can't post from my own account, sorry)
